The Sonos Outdoor Speakers by Sonance OUTDRWW1 are a pair of passive 6.5" surface-mount speakers designed for patios, decks, backyards, outdoor kitchens, and other spaces exposed to changing weather.

Each speaker combines a 6.5" polypropylene woofer with a 1" tweeter in a sealed IP66 enclosure. Use them with Sonos Amp to access Sonos-specific DSP optimization, app control, streaming, and multi-room audio.

Who Should Choose These Outdoor Speakers?

Choose the OUTDRWW1 pair when you want permanently installed outdoor speakers instead of portable battery-powered speakers. They are a strong fit for patios, decks, backyard entertaining areas, outdoor kitchens, and pool-adjacent spaces where wired reliability and true outdoor weather protection matter.

They are especially useful for homes already using Sonos because Sonos Amp can integrate the outdoor zone with the rest of the Sonos system.

Sonos Amp Optimization

These are passive speakers and require an amplifier. Sonos Amp is the preferred pairing because it can recognize Sonos Architectural speakers and apply dedicated DSP tuning, protection, and system optimization through the Sonos app.

According to Sonos, a single Sonos Amp can power up to three pairs of compatible Sonos Architectural passive speakers when configured according to Sonos requirements.

The speakers themselves do not contain Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, streaming, or built-in amplification. Those features come from the connected Sonos Amp or other source equipment.

Frequency Response With and Without Sonos DSP

Sonos publishes separate response specifications depending on whether its dedicated DSP optimization is being used:

• Without Sonos DSP: 73 Hz–20 kHz (±3 dB), 55 Hz–20 kHz (-10 dB)
• With Sonos DSP: 48 Hz–20 kHz (±3 dB), 34 Hz–20 kHz (-10 dB)

This is one of the main reasons to pair these speakers with Sonos Amp rather than treating them as generic outdoor speakers.

IP66 Weather Protection

The sealed enclosure is rated IP66 and tested for exposure to humidity, water, salt spray, temperature extremes, and UV. Sonos also lists compliance with MIL-STD-810 environmental testing.

IP66 means the speakers are protected against dust and powerful water jets, but they are not designed for submersion.

Included FastMount Brackets

The pair includes Sonos FastMount brackets for surface installation along with wiring terminal covers. The brackets allow the speakers to be aimed toward the desired listening area after mounting.

Use outdoor-rated speaker wire sized appropriately for the wire-run distance. Sonos specifies 16 AWG or larger speaker wire.
