Episode Terrain ES-TERRAIN-HSUB-4.1 Patio 4 Inch Speakers Sub Kit

Product Details

Full Outdoor Sound Without Burying the Subwoofer

The Episode ES-TERRAIN-HSUB-4.1 combines four 4-inch landscape satellite speakers with one 8-inch dual-voice-coil hardscape subwoofer for patios, decks, gardens, pool areas, and other outdoor listening spaces.

The hardscape subwoofer mounts above ground on a suitable solid surface, making this kit a good alternative when an underground burial subwoofer is not practical.

What Is Included

  • Four 4-inch satellite speakers
  • Four ground stakes
  • One 8-inch dual-voice-coil hardscape subwoofer
  • Hardscape subwoofer base plate
  • 1.6-foot four-conductor wire attached to the subwoofer
  • Stake installation end cap
  • Silicone-filled weatherized wire connectors

System Specifications

  • Nominal impedance: 8 ohms per channel in the supplied 4.1 configuration
  • Power handling: 100W RMS per channel
  • System frequency response: 35 Hz to 20 kHz, ±3 dB
  • Satellite woofer: 4-inch polypropylene cone
  • Satellite tweeter: 3/4-inch aluminum dome
  • Satellite crossover: 125 Hz
  • Subwoofer: 8-inch polypropylene cone with dual 1.5-inch voice coils
  • Color: Dark brown

Amplifier Requirements

This is a passive speaker system and requires a separate stereo or multi-channel amplifier. In the supplied 4.1 configuration, the system presents an 8-ohm nominal load per channel and is rated for 100W RMS per channel.

This is not a 70V or 100V system. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, streaming, and app control depend on the separately purchased amplifier or audio source.

Placement and Wiring

Place the satellite speakers evenly around the listening area, generally about 6 to 8 feet apart, and aim them toward the center of the space. Positioning the hardscape subwoofer near a wall or other reflective surface can increase perceived bass output.

Use outdoor-rated direct-burial speaker wire:

  • Up to 100 ft: 16 AWG or larger
  • Up to 200 ft: 14 AWG or larger
  • Up to 300 ft: 12 AWG or larger

The hardscape subwoofer mounts to a solid surface using its base plate. Use suitable fasteners for the specific mounting surface.

Outdoor Use

The system is designed for outdoor use, but placement still matters. Avoid aiming the satellite speakers more than 45 degrees upward and keep them out of direct sprinkler streams. The hardscape subwoofer is rated IPX5 and is designed to withstand normal outdoor moisture exposure, but it should not be submerged.

Dimensions

  • Satellite without stake: 5.63 × 5.4 × 7.6 inches
  • Satellite with stake: 17.83 × 5.4 × 7.6 inches
  • Hardscape subwoofer: 11.87 × 15.87 × 12.86 inches
  • Complete system weight: 28 lb
  • Manufacturer limited lifetime warranty

Expanding the System

The Terrain system can be expanded with additional satellite speakers or another subwoofer. Expansion changes the amplifier load, so amplifier compatibility must be confirmed before moving beyond the supplied 4.1 configuration.

The manufacturer's 3,000-square-foot coverage specification refers to an expanded system using eight satellite speakers, not automatically to this four-speaker kit.
