Who Should Choose Sonos Sub 4?

Choose Sub 4 when you already have a compatible Sonos soundbar or amplified Sonos speaker and want substantially deeper bass than the main speaker can produce on its own.

Compared with Sub Mini, Sub 4 is the better fit when maximum compactness is less important and you want Sonos's larger, more powerful subwoofer platform for movies, TV, gaming, and music.

Dual 5-Inch × 8-Inch Force-Cancelling Woofers

Sub 4 uses two custom 5" × 8" elliptical woofers positioned inward toward each other. Their opposing movement creates a force-cancelling effect that helps reduce unwanted cabinet vibration and distortion.

Each woofer is driven by its own Class-D digital amplifier tuned to the subwoofer's acoustic architecture.

Bass Extension Down to 25 Hz

Sonos specifies low-frequency extension down to 25 Hz. The ported cabinet and built-in DSP work together with the paired Sonos product to balance bass response across the system.

Trueplay System Tuning

Trueplay measures the acoustics of the room and fine-tunes the Sonos system's EQ. Sonos lists Sub 4 Trueplay support with compatible iOS and Android devices.

Trueplay behavior depends on the Sonos product Sub 4 is paired with and the tuning method supported by that system.

Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet

Sub 4 supports compatible 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax networks on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, including Wi-Fi 6.

A 10/100 Ethernet port is also available for a wired network connection when appropriate.

Wireless Audio, Wired Power

Sub 4 communicates with the Sonos system wirelessly over the network, so a traditional RCA subwoofer cable is not required.

Sub 4 is not battery powered. It requires a nearby AC outlet during use.

Compatible Sonos Systems

Sub 4 works with compatible amplified, non-portable Sonos products running the current Sonos app.

For home theater, Sonos currently supports Sub 4 with Sonos home theater products except Playbar and Playbase. It is not compatible with products such as Move, Roam, Port, Connect, or older unsupported speakers.
