Who Should Choose Sonos Five?

Choose Sonos Five when music quality is the priority and you want a self-contained powered speaker with strong bass, Wi-Fi streaming, analog line-in, and easy Sonos multi-room integration.

It works well in living rooms, offices, open spaces, and dedicated music areas. A single Five can provide stereo playback, while two Fives create a more focused left/right stereo system.

Six-Driver Acoustic Architecture

Sonos Five uses three midwoofers to reproduce midrange and low frequencies, plus three tweeters for high-frequency detail and stereo dispersion.

Two tweeters are angled outward to expand the soundstage, while the center tweeter focuses on central vocal information. Each of the six drivers is powered by its own matched Class-D amplifier.

Horizontal or Vertical Placement

Place one Five horizontally and the speaker automatically separates left and right channels for stereo playback.

When Five is positioned vertically, its processing adjusts to mono. Two vertically positioned Fives can then be configured as a dedicated stereo pair for more precise left/right separation.

Built-In 3.5 mm Line-In

Five includes an auto-detecting 3.5 mm analog input for compatible audio sources such as turntables, CD players, computers, and other line-level equipment.

A turntable requires either a built-in phono preamp or an external phono preamp before connecting to Five. The auxiliary cable is sold separately.

Wi-Fi Streaming and AirPlay 2

Use the Sonos app to access supported music services, group rooms, control playback, and build a multi-room audio system.

Apple AirPlay 2 is also supported from compatible Apple devices. A 10/100 Ethernet port is available when a wired network connection is preferred.

Trueplay Room Tuning

Trueplay measures the room's acoustics and adjusts the speaker's EQ for its placement and listening environment. Sonos specifies a compatible iOS device for Trueplay tuning on Five.

No Built-In Voice Assistant

Five does not include microphones for built-in voice-assistant control. Voice control can be provided through another compatible voice-enabled Sonos or smart-home device where supported.

About Bluetooth

Sonos's current Five retail product page continues to position Five as a Wi-Fi speaker and does not list Bluetooth audio among its customer-facing connectivity features. For this SKU, Bear Security Shop recommends using Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2, Ethernet, or the 3.5 mm line-in for playback.
