Who Should Choose the Sonos Arc?

Choose the Arc when you want a significant TV-audio upgrade without building a conventional receiver-and-speaker system. It works especially well for living rooms and media spaces where clean installation, Dolby Atmos capability, music streaming, and future Sonos expansion are important.

Sonos recommends Arc for TVs 50" and larger, although actual fit should also be checked against your TV stand, wall space, and viewing setup.

Dolby Atmos With Dedicated Height Channels

The Arc includes two upward-firing channels designed to reproduce Dolby Atmos height information when the soundbar receives a compatible Atmos signal from your TV.

Dolby Atmos requires an HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC connection. Many streaming Atmos formats can work through HDMI ARC using Dolby Digital Plus, while lossless Dolby Atmos using Dolby TrueHD requires HDMI eARC.

Your TV, source device, streaming service, and HDMI connection must all support the required format. The Sonos app shows the audio format Arc is currently receiving.

HDMI ARC, eARC, and Optical Compatibility

Connect Arc to your TV's HDMI ARC or HDMI eARC port using the included HDMI cable. HDMI eARC is recommended when you want lossless Dolby TrueHD, lossless Dolby Atmos, or multichannel PCM.

If your TV only has an optical digital audio output, the included Sonos Optical Audio Adapter can be used. Optical does not support Dolby Atmos and also disables HDMI-CEC features such as compatible voice control of TV power.

Trueplay Room Tuning

Sonos Trueplay measures the acoustics of the room and adjusts the Arc's sound accordingly. On this generation of Arc, Trueplay tuning requires a supported iOS device.

Speech Enhancement and Night Sound

Speech Enhancement can boost voice frequencies to make dialogue easier to understand, while Night Sound reduces the intensity of loud effects and raises quieter sounds for lower-volume nighttime listening.

Voice Control and Music Streaming

Arc includes a far-field four-microphone array and supports Sonos Voice Control, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant where those services are available.

Apple AirPlay 2 allows compatible Apple devices to stream audio directly to Arc, while the Sonos app provides access to supported music services and multi-room playback.

No Bluetooth Audio

The original Sonos Arc does not provide Bluetooth audio playback. Wireless audio is handled through Wi-Fi, the Sonos app, compatible streaming services, and Apple AirPlay 2.

Expand Into a Sonos Surround System

Arc can operate as a complete soundbar on its own, or you can later add a compatible Sonos Sub for deeper bass and compatible Sonos speakers as dedicated surrounds.
