Sonos Amp AMPG1US1BLK is a two-channel streaming amplifier for passive speakers, whole-home audio zones, outdoor systems, stereo listening, and TV sound. It delivers 125 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers while adding Sonos app control, Wi-Fi streaming, Apple AirPlay 2, HDMI ARC, analog line-in, and a dedicated subwoofer output.

Use it with bookshelf, floorstanding, in-wall or in-ceiling speakers, or outdoor speakers while keeping the source and amplification in one compact component.

Who Should Choose Sonos Amp?

Choose Sonos Amp when you want to keep passive speakers but add modern streaming, app control, multi-room playback, and TV integration without using a traditional AV receiver.

It works particularly well for architectural speakers, outdoor zones, stereo systems, and rooms where a clean two-channel TV setup is preferred.

125W per Channel at 8 Ohms

Sonos rates Amp at 125 watts per channel into 8-ohm speakers. Sonos also publishes 187.5 watts per channel into 6 ohms and 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms.

Amp supports speakers with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms or higher. Do not connect speakers rated below 4 ohms.

Speaker Compatibility and Multiple Pairs

Sonos recommends speakers rated for at least 125W when using 8-ohm models and at least 200W when using 4-ohm models.

Two pairs of conventional 8-ohm speakers can be connected in parallel. Compatible Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers have different supported multi-speaker configurations when used with Sonos Amp.

Use appropriate speaker wire and confirm total speaker load before connecting multiple pairs.

HDMI ARC for TV Audio

Connect Amp to a compatible TV through HDMI ARC to play TV audio through your passive speakers and control volume from a compatible TV remote.

Amp provides two front audio channels for TV playback. It is not a Dolby Atmos amplifier and does not provide multichannel amplification by itself.

Sonos Amp does not support the broader Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, or multichannel PCM feature set available on newer Sonos soundbars.

Optical TV Compatibility

If your TV does not have HDMI ARC but provides optical digital audio, Sonos supports connection through the optional Sonos Optical Audio Adapter attached to an HDMI cable.

The optical adapter is sold separately.

RCA Line-In for Turntables and Other Sources

Amp includes stereo RCA line-in for compatible analog sources such as CD players, audio components, and turntables with a built-in or external phono preamp.

The RCA inputs are line-level inputs and do not include a built-in phono preamp.

Dedicated Subwoofer Output

The RCA subwoofer output automatically detects a connected powered subwoofer and provides a user-adjustable crossover from 50Hz to 110Hz.

This allows Sonos Amp to integrate with many powered subwoofers, not only Sonos Sub models.

Sonos Streaming and Multi-Room Audio

Sonos Amp connects to the Sonos app for streaming services, room grouping, volume control, EQ, and multi-room playback.

Apple AirPlay 2 is also supported from compatible Apple devices.

Voice Control Requires Another Device

Sonos Amp does not contain a built-in microphone or voice assistant. Hands-free control requires a compatible voice-enabled Sonos speaker or another supported voice-control device in the system.

Trueplay With Sonos Architectural Speakers

Trueplay tuning on Sonos Amp is available when Amp is paired with supported Sonos Architectural by Sonance speakers and a compatible iOS device.

Trueplay should not be presented as a universal room-calibration feature for every passive speaker connected to Amp.
