Who Should Choose the Q7 Meta?

Choose the Q7 Meta if you want a full-size passive tower for serious music listening or as a front speaker in a home theater. Its 3-way design separates high, midrange, and bass duties across dedicated drivers, while the Uni-Q array places the tweeter at the acoustic center of the midrange driver to help create more even dispersion.

If you want a self-powered speaker with built-in streaming, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or amplification, this is not the right model. The Q7 Meta is fully passive and requires an external stereo amplifier, integrated amplifier, or AV receiver.

Amplifier and Receiver Requirements

KEF recommends 15–200 W of amplifier power for the Q7 Meta. This is an amplifier recommendation, not an RMS or peak power-handling specification.

The speaker presents a nominal 4 Ω load and can drop to 3.2 Ω, so the amplifier or AV receiver should be comfortable driving 4-ohm speakers at your intended listening level. Do not choose an amplifier solely by matching the highest watt number.

For home theater systems, a compatible AV receiver should provide stable 4-ohm operation and sufficient headroom for the number of channels being driven.

12th-Generation Uni-Q With MAT

The Q7 Meta uses KEF's 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, combining the 0.75" tweeter and 4" midrange driver into a coincident acoustic source. KEF describes Uni-Q as helping disperse sound more evenly through the room.

Metamaterial Absorption Technology sits behind the tweeter and is designed to absorb unwanted rear radiation. KEF specifies that MAT absorbs approximately 99% of unwanted sound from the rear of the driver. This should not be described as eliminating 99% of all speaker distortion.

Dual 6.5-Inch Bass Drivers

Two 6.5" hybrid-aluminum bass drivers handle the low-frequency range. KEF combines the driver design with a bass-reflex enclosure and computationally modeled port for controlled bass output.

The published frequency response is 46 Hz–20 kHz ±3 dB, with a 39 Hz–20 kHz -6 dB frequency range and typical in-room bass response down to 28 Hz at -6 dB.

The Q7 Meta uses crossover points at 440 Hz and 2.3 kHz to divide the signal between the bass drivers, midrange, and tweeter. KEF specifies a maximum measured output of 110 dB at 1 meter.

Maximum SPL is not the same as continuous listening level and should not be treated as a recommended operating target.

Placement Guidance

For stereo use, order two speakers and place them at similar distances from the main listening position. KEF recommends positioning the speakers on a stable surface and slightly away from walls and corners to help avoid excessive bass buildup.

Toe-in can be adjusted gradually based on room layout and listening preference. The included port bungs can also be useful when placement close to a wall produces too much bass.
