Who Should Choose the KC62?

Choose the KC62 when cabinet size is a major consideration but you still want deep bass for music or home theater. It works especially well with premium bookshelf speakers, floorstanding speakers, compact stereo systems, and AV receivers where a conventional large subwoofer would be difficult to place.

If maximum output in a very large room is more important than compact size, a physically larger subwoofer or multiple-subwoofer system may be a better choice.

1000W RMS Means Built-In Amplifier Output

KEF specifies 1000W RMS of Class D amplification, divided as 500W RMS for each of the two 6.5" drivers. This is the output of the KC62's built-in amplifier and should not be confused with passive-speaker power handling.

The KC62 is self-powered, so your AV receiver or stereo amplifier only needs to provide the appropriate audio signal. It does not need to supply the subwoofer's 1000W of amplifier power.

Uni-Core Force-Cancelling Drivers

The KC62 uses two opposing 6.5" drivers in KEF's Uni-Core configuration. The two voice coils share a single motor structure while the opposed driver arrangement helps cancel mechanical reaction forces.

This allows KEF to achieve substantial driver excursion and low-frequency output from a very compact cabinet.

11 Hz Low-Frequency Extension

KEF specifies a frequency response of 11 Hz–200 Hz at ±3 dB and a maximum output of 105 dB at 1 meter.

The 11 Hz specification describes the measured frequency-response limit. It does not mean every room or listening position will reproduce 11 Hz at the same audible level. Room acoustics, placement, crossover settings, source material, and playback level all affect real-world bass response.

RCA, LFE, and Speaker-Level Connections

The KC62 can connect to an AV receiver or preamp using its RCA/LFE input. It can also accept speaker-level input from compatible stereo amplifiers or receivers that do not provide a dedicated subwoofer output.

For home theater systems with an LFE/subwoofer output, set the KC62 to LFE mode and manage the crossover through the AV receiver or processor.

For stereo systems without bass management, the KC62's manual crossover can be adjusted from 40–140 Hz to blend with the main speakers.

Line Output With High-Pass Filtering

The KC62 also provides RCA line outputs with selectable high-pass filtering. This can be useful in stereo systems where you want to remove deep bass from the main speakers and let the subwoofer handle the lowest frequencies.

The selectable stereo high-pass settings include 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, and 120 Hz, plus bypass. Separate mono settings are also available.

Five Placement EQ Modes

The rear-panel EQ control provides five placement settings:

These presets compensate for common placement conditions. Apartment Mode specifically reduces the level of very low frequencies to help limit bass transmission into adjacent rooms.

Important Placement Clearance

The KC62 uses side-firing drivers. KEF specifies at least 3" of clearance between each driver and any nearby wall or obstruction.

Do not place the cabinet where either driver is blocked. Start with the appropriate Room, Wall, Corner, or Cabinet EQ setting for your placement and fine-tune from there.

Optional KW1 Wireless Connection

The KC62 does not contain a built-in wireless audio receiver. Wireless subwoofer signal transmission requires the separately sold KEF KW1 Wireless Subwoofer Adapter Kit.

The KW1 can simplify placement when running a long signal cable from the receiver or source is inconvenient. The KC62 still requires AC power at its installation location.

KEF Wireless Speaker Integration

The KC62 can also connect by line input to compatible KEF powered speaker systems such as LSX and LS50 Wireless models. KEF instructs users of supported systems to set the KC62 to LFE mode and manage high-pass and low-pass settings through the corresponding KEF app.

This app integration comes from the connected KEF speaker system. The KC62 itself does not have standalone Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, streaming, or app control.
