KEF HTF8003 Passive 3-Channel LCR Soundbar 38 Inch Uni-Q Drivers

Product Details

Three Front Speakers in One Clean Soundbar Enclosure

The KEF HTF8003 is a passive 3-channel LCR soundbar that combines the front Left, Center, and Right speaker channels into one 37.8" high-gloss black aluminum enclosure. Unlike a powered TV soundbar, each channel connects separately to an AV receiver or multichannel amplifier, giving you a true discrete front soundstage without three separate speaker cabinets.

It is a strong choice for living rooms, media rooms, bedrooms, and home theater systems where you want cleaner placement around the TV while retaining dedicated left, center, and right channels.

Who Should Choose the HTF8003?

Choose the HTF8003 when you want a real three-channel front soundstage but prefer one visually clean enclosure beneath or near the TV. It is particularly useful when separate left, center, and right speaker cabinets would take up too much space or create visual clutter.

If you want a soundbar that connects directly to a TV through HDMI ARC/eARC, streams music by itself, or includes built-in amplification, this is not the right product. The HTF8003 is a passive loudspeaker system and requires external amplification.

Three Discrete LCR Channels

The HTF8003 is not a single speaker receiving one mono signal. It contains separate Left, Center, and Right speaker sections, each powered by its own amplifier channel.

Your AV receiver or multichannel amplifier therefore needs three compatible amplified outputs: Front Left, Center, and Front Right. This preserves discrete movie dialogue, music, and front-channel effects rather than combining them into one channel.

Amplifier and AV Receiver Requirements

KEF specifies an 8-ohm nominal impedance, 87 dB sensitivity, and 100 W power handling for the HTF8003. Use an AV receiver or multichannel amplifier that is suitable for 8-ohm passive speakers and provides separate Left, Center, and Right speaker outputs.

The 100 W figure is KEF's published power-handling specification. It should not be described as built-in amplifier output, because the HTF8003 contains no amplifier.

You can compare compatible AV receivers and surround sound equipment for a complete system.

Uni-Q Driver Technology

Each of the three channels uses a 75 mm Uni-Q array with a 15 mm aluminum tweeter positioned at the acoustic center of the midrange cone. KEF designed Uni-Q to disperse sound more evenly through the listening area.

Each channel also includes a separate 75 mm low-frequency driver and 75 mm auxiliary bass radiator for additional low-frequency output from the compact enclosure.

Frequency Response and Subwoofer Integration

KEF specifies a frequency response of 70 Hz–22 kHz at ±3 dB. For movie soundtracks and music with substantial deep bass, pairing the HTF8003 with a powered subwoofer can extend the system below the soundbar's natural low-frequency range.

A subwoofer is not included. Browse subwoofers if you want deeper bass for a complete home theater system.

Connections

The HTF8003 uses spring-loaded gold-plated speaker terminals and accepts bare speaker wire or compatible pin-terminated cables. The Left, Center, and Right channels must each be wired separately to the corresponding amplifier or AV receiver output.

Appropriate speaker wire is required and sold separately.

No HDMI, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or Streaming

The HTF8003 has no HDMI ARC/eARC input, optical input, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, streaming service support, app control, or built-in amplification.

In a typical TV system, the TV sends audio to the AV receiver, commonly through HDMI ARC/eARC when supported by the receiver and TV. The receiver then powers the three HTF8003 speaker channels through speaker wire.

Wall or Furniture Placement

KEF supplies both a wall-mount bracket and a table stand, allowing the HTF8003 to be positioned beneath a wall-mounted TV or placed on suitable furniture.

KEF originally designed the HTF8003 to visually complement flat-panel TVs approximately 42" and larger. This is a design recommendation rather than a TV compatibility requirement.

What's Included?

  • 1 KEF HTF8003 passive 3-channel soundbar
  • Wall-mount bracket
  • Table stand
  • Product documentation

The AV receiver or amplifier, speaker wire, television, HDMI cables, powered subwoofer, and other system components are sold separately.

Dimensions and Weight

The HTF8003 measures approximately 4.7" H × 37.8" W × 3.1" D and weighs approximately 13.2 lb.

Warranty

KEF USA currently lists a 5-year warranty period for HiFi speaker drivers when purchased from an authorized dealer, subject to KEF's warranty terms and proof-of-purchase requirements.
