Who Should Choose the Ci200RR-THX?

Choose the Ci200RR-THX when you want a discreet ceiling speaker capable of higher output and deeper low-frequency extension than smaller architectural models. It is a strong choice for dedicated theaters, large media rooms, surround channels, and immersive-audio layouts where performance matters as much as appearance.

If your system does not need this level of output or an 8" architectural driver, a smaller KEF in-ceiling model may be easier to place and may require less ceiling depth.

Amplifier and AV Receiver Requirements

The Ci200RR-THX is completely passive and requires an external amplifier or AV receiver. KEF recommends 10–190 W of amplifier power and specifies a nominal impedance of 4 Ω.

Your AV receiver or amplifier should be designed for stable operation with 4-ohm speakers at your intended listening level and channel count.

The 10–190 W figure is KEF's recommended amplifier range, not an RMS or peak power-handling specification.

THX Certified Ultra

The Ci200RR-THX is THX Certified Ultra. KEF's architectural specification sheet recommends an 80 Hz high-pass filter when configuring the speaker to meet THX system specifications.

This should not be confused with the smaller Ci160RR-THX, which has an additional 3-liter rear-enclosure requirement for its specific THX distortion specification. KEF does not publish that 3-liter requirement for the Ci200RR-THX.

8-Inch Uni-Q With 120-Degree Coverage

The Ci200RR-THX uses an 8" Uni-Q driver array with a 1.5" high-frequency driver. KEF positions the tweeter at the acoustic center of the low-frequency driver to help create broad, even dispersion.

KEF specifies approximately 120° nominal coverage, helping the speaker cover a wider listening area from a ceiling position. Room acoustics, ceiling height, placement, and speaker spacing still affect the final result.

Frequency Response and Bass Performance

KEF specifies an open-backed frequency response of 33 Hz–28 kHz at ±6 dB and a broader frequency range of 28 Hz–45 kHz at -10 dB.

For general system design, KEF lists a recommended high-pass range of 35–80 Hz. For THX system configuration, KEF specifies 80 Hz.

Rear Volume Requirements

KEF lists an ideal rear volume of approximately 20 liters and a minimum rear volume of approximately 10 liters for the Ci200RR-THX.

Available cavity volume, insulation, framing, and surrounding construction can affect low-frequency behavior, so these values should be considered during system planning.

IP64 Environmental Protection

The Ci200RR-THX carries an IP64 rating. This provides protection against dust and splashing water but does not make the speaker waterproof or suitable for immersion.

Wiring, ceiling construction, connected electronics, and other system components must also be suitable for the installation environment.

Paintable Magnetic Grille

The Ci200RR-THX uses KEF's ultra-thin bezel architectural design with a magnetic grille for a discreet finished appearance. The grille can be painted to better match the surrounding ceiling when KEF's painting guidance is followed.
