Product Details

Bring Full, Even Sound Across Your Outdoor Space

The Episode ES-TERRAIN-SYS-4.1 is a passive 4.1 landscape speaker system with four compact satellite speakers and one underground burial subwoofer. It is designed for patios, backyards, pool areas, gardens, and outdoor entertaining spaces where evenly distributed sound and discreet placement matter.

What Is Included

  • Four 4-inch two-way satellite speakers
  • Four ground stakes
  • One 8-inch dual-voice-coil burial subwoofer
  • 1.6-foot four-conductor burial wire attached to the subwoofer
  • One protective stake-installation end cap
  • Silicone-filled weatherized wire connectors

Amplifier Requirements

  • Passive system requiring a separate two-channel amplifier or powered Zone 2 output
  • Nominal system impedance: 8 ohms per channel in the supplied 4.1 configuration
  • Power handling: 100W RMS per channel
  • Not compatible with direct 70V or 100V speaker outputs

Use an amplifier suitable for an 8-ohm stereo load and keep its output appropriate for the system’s 100W RMS-per-channel rating. This kit does not include amplification, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, streaming, app control, or speaker-volume controls.

Speaker and Subwoofer Design

  • Satellite woofer: 4-inch polypropylene cone
  • Satellite tweeter: 3/4-inch aluminum dome with ferrofluid-cooled neodymium motor
  • Satellite crossover frequency: 125 Hz
  • Subwoofer: 8-inch polypropylene cone with dual 1.5-inch voice coils
  • System frequency response: 35 Hz to 20 kHz, ±3 dB
  • Finish: Dark brown

The subwoofer connects to both the left and right amplifier channels. The satellite speakers are then wired from the corresponding subwoofer outputs according to the manufacturer’s wiring diagram.

Placement and Wiring

Place the satellites evenly around the listening area, approximately 6 to 8 feet apart, and aim them toward the center of the space. The burial subwoofer should be positioned near the center of the listening area when possible. Placement near a wall or reflective surface can increase perceived bass output.

Use outdoor-rated direct-burial speaker wire throughout the installation:

  • Up to 100 feet: 16 AWG or larger
  • Up to 200 feet: 14 AWG or larger
  • Up to 300 feet: 12 AWG or larger

The included ground stakes support landscape installation. Optional pivot brackets and other mounting accessories are sold separately when mounting under an eave, on a wall, tree, or other structure.

Outdoor Use and Weather Limitations

The speakers are designed for permanent outdoor use and normal rainfall, but they should not be described as waterproof. Avoid direct sprinkler streams, standing water around connections, and aiming the satellites more than 45 degrees upward. Water trapped in a speaker can affect sound and may cause damage if it freezes.

Dimensions and Weight

  • Satellite without stake: 5.63 × 5.4 × 7.6 inches
  • Satellite with stake: 17.83 × 5.4 × 7.6 inches
  • Burial subwoofer: 22.3 × 12.4 × 12.4 inches
  • Complete system weight: 35 lb

Expanding the System

The supplied 4.1 configuration presents an 8-ohm load. Additional ES-TERRAIN-SAT-2.0 satellite pairs or an additional ES-TERRAIN-SUB can be added, but expansion changes the amplifier load. Confirm amplifier compatibility before expanding to 6.1, 8.1, 4.2, or larger configurations.

The manufacturer’s stated coverage of up to 3,000 square feet applies to an expanded 8.1 system, not automatically to the included 4.1 kit.
