Who Should Not Buy This?

This is not the best choice for a large room, high-volume home theater, or listening area that requires substantial bass from the ceiling speakers alone. A 6-inch or 8-inch Episode model will generally provide stronger low-frequency output and greater headroom.

It is also not a dual-voice-coil speaker. One SIG-54-IC connects to one amplifier channel and does not reproduce both left and right stereo channels from a single speaker location.

This model does not include a 70V transformer. It should not be connected directly to a commercial 70V or 100V distributed-audio amplifier.

Before Cutting the Ceiling

Push Lock by Swarm Installation

Episode’s Push Lock by Swarm system uses spring-loaded mounting dogs that engage when the front buttons are pressed. Once engaged, the mounting dogs hold the speaker in the opening and free the installer’s hands for final adjustment.

The dogs can be tightened by up to approximately 6mm when additional clamping pressure is needed for uneven, textured, or layered ceiling material.

Do not overtighten the mounting system. Tighten only after each dog is fully seated against the rear of the ceiling material.

One-Step or Two-Step Installation

The speaker can be installed as one assembled unit, or the speaker core can be removed from its included cradle for a staged installation.

The two-step method allows the cradle, protective cover, wiring, and optional enclosure to be installed earlier in the construction process. The speaker core can then be inserted after painting, sanding, and other work is complete.

This helps reduce the risk of paint, drywall dust, insulation, or construction debris reaching the speaker drivers.

Included Cradle and Optional Enclosure

The SIG-54-IC includes its compatible Signature cradle. A separate SIG-CRADLE-IC-4 is only needed for replacement, advance installation, or projects that require an additional cradle.

The compatible ESS-ENCL-IC-4 enclosure is optional and sold separately. It can provide a more predictable air volume, help reduce sound transfer into adjacent spaces, and prevent insulation or debris from entering the speaker cavity.

When the enclosure is used, allow approximately 5.9 inches of total mounting depth.

Grille and Flush-Mount Options

The standard speaker uses a thin-bezel magnetic grille that can be painted to better match the ceiling.

A true flush-mount installation requires the appropriate Episode flush-mount bracket, which is sold separately and normally must be planned before the ceiling finish is completed.

Do not paint the speaker drivers, tweeter, switches, or mounting mechanism. Follow the official grille-painting instructions and avoid blocking the grille perforations.

Speaker Wiring

Strip approximately 1/4 inch of insulation from each conductor and connect the speaker wire to the gold-plated push terminals.

Maintain positive-to-positive and negative-to-negative polarity between the amplifier and every speaker. Reversed polarity can reduce bass output and create inconsistent sound between speakers.

Use speaker cable with the correct in-wall and fire rating for the property and installation location.

Does It Need a Subwoofer?

A subwoofer is optional for background music and everyday multi-room listening, particularly in smaller rooms.
