Who Should Not Buy This?
This is not the best choice for a basic whole-home audio zone or for playing stereo music from one speaker location. It is a single-channel surround speaker, not a dual-voice-coil stereo speaker.
It should not normally be used as the front left, center, or right speaker. A dedicated Episode LCR or standard in-wall speaker will usually provide more precise front-stage imaging and dialogue placement.
This model is also not the most straightforward choice for Dolby Atmos height channels. It is designed primarily for broad side or rear surround coverage, while Atmos channels normally use direct-radiating in-ceiling speakers positioned for overhead effects.

Amplifier and AV Receiver Matching

Use a quality AV receiver or multichannel amplifier that supports passive 8-ohm surround speakers. Clean amplification is more important than choosing an amplifier based only on its maximum published wattage.
After installation, run the receiver’s room-correction system and verify speaker distance, level, crossover, and bass-management settings manually.
Placement Guidance
For side-surround use, install the speakers beside or slightly behind the primary seating area. Try to keep the left and right speakers at similar heights and distances from the listeners.
For rear-surround use, position the speakers behind the main seating area with reasonably symmetrical spacing. Avoid placing one speaker much closer to the listeners than the other unless the AV receiver can compensate correctly.
The ideal location depends on room dimensions, seating position, number of rows, screen location, and the rest of the speaker layout. Plan the complete theater system before cutting the wall.
Installation Considerations
Before cutting the wall, confirm that there is enough room for the 7.6-by-11.7-inch opening, the 3.7-inch mounting depth, the Push Lock mounting system, speaker wiring, and the recommended 15-to-20-liter cavity behind the speaker.
Check carefully for studs, pipes, electrical wiring, HVAC components, blocking, and other hidden obstructions. Confirm both surround locations before cutting so the finished layout remains symmetrical.
Connect each speaker to one assigned surround-channel output from the AV receiver or amplifier. Maintain correct positive-to-positive and negative-to-negative polarity.
Push Lock by Swarm Installation
Episode’s Push Lock by Swarm system uses spring-loaded mounting dogs that engage with the press of a button. The mounting dogs can then be tightened further when additional security is needed for uneven or layered wall material.
The speaker can be installed as a complete one-piece assembly, or the speaker core can be removed from the cradle for staged construction. This allows the cradle and optional enclosure to be installed before the finished speaker is placed in the wall.
Optional Enclosure and Cradle
The compatible enclosure is optional and sold separately. It can help create a more consistent air volume, reduce sound transfer into adjoining spaces, and keep insulation or construction debris away from the speaker.
The speaker includes its required cradle. A separate SIG-CRADLE-IW-6 may be purchased when a second cradle is needed for staged construction, replacement, or advance installation.
Does It Need a Subwoofer?
A dedicated subwoofer is recommended for home theater use. Although the speaker’s published response extends to 41Hz, it is intended to reproduce surround effects rather than the deepest movie bass and low-frequency effects.
Use your AV receiver’s bass management to send deeper frequencies to one or more properly sized subwoofers. The final crossover should be selected through calibration and listening rather than relying only on the published frequency-response number.
