Flexible Network Audio for Multiple Rooms or One Surround Zone

The Episode EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50 is a compact six-channel DSP amplifier designed to receive, route, decode, and amplify audio within a compatible Snap One Media over IP system.

It can be configured for up to three stereo zones, one 5.1 or 5.0 room, or another supported combination of stereo, mono, multichannel, and subwoofer-assisted zones. It can also place its local analog or digital input onto the MoIP network for playback elsewhere in the system.

This is not a standalone streaming amplifier. A working B-900-MOIP-4K-CTRL controller, a compatible managed network, and the required MoIP sources or transmitters are needed for MoIP operation.

Who Should Not Buy This?

This is not a conventional standalone six-channel power amplifier. It requires network configuration and a B-900-MOIP-4K-CTRL controller to function as a MoIP device.

It does not contain Spotify Connect, AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth music streaming, Internet radio, or built-in music-service apps. Audio must come from compatible MoIP sources or the amplifier’s local RCA or digital input.

It has no HDMI input, HDMI output, television tuner, or video-processing connection. References to 4K HDR describe the wider MoIP system, not video passing physically through this amplifier.

It is not a 70V or 100V distributed-audio amplifier. It is designed for compatible low-impedance passive speakers.

It is not the right choice when six channels must each receive 50W simultaneously. The 50W rating applies to one channel driven under the required power conditions, while the current product table lists 10W per channel with all six channels driven.

The box includes the amplifier, two mounting ears with screws, four removable feet, and an installation-manual QR card.

A conventional AC power cord is not included because this model is powered through its network connection or the separately sold 48V DC power supply.

Up to Three Audio Zones

The current Snap One product table separately lists 10W per channel at 4 ohms with all six channels driven.

The product should therefore be described as providing up to 50W on one channel, not as a simultaneous 6 × 50W amplifier.

PoE, PoE+, and PoE++ Power

The RJ45 network connection can carry both the MoIP network connection and operating power from a compatible PoE switch or injector.

The connected PoE class directly affects available amplifier output. A standard PoE port may power the unit but will not provide the same one-channel output available from PoE++.

Before ordering, confirm:

  • The switch or injector’s supported PoE standard.
  • The available wattage on the selected port.
  • The switch’s total PoE budget after all connected devices are counted.
  • The output expected from the number of active amplifier channels.

Optional 48V DC Power Supply

When suitable PoE power is unavailable, the amplifier can be powered with the separately sold Episode EE-PS-48VDC-2.5A external power supply.

The optional supply connects to the amplifier’s rear 48V DC input and supports the published 50W one-channel-driven output.

The external power supply is not included in the amplifier box.

Built-In MoIP Audio Receiver

The EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50 can receive up to three MoIP audio streams for routing to its configured zones.

Compatible audio may originate from a dedicated MoIP audio transmitter or from an audio or video source introduced through another compatible device in the MoIP system.

The MoIP platform handles latency compensation to help maintain synchronization between network audio and video zones.

Transmit Local Sources onto the Network

The amplifier is not only an audio receiver. Its local analog and digital inputs can act as MoIP transmitters.

No Built-In Consumer Music Services

“MoIP streaming” means receiving and transmitting compatible audio streams across a Media over IP network.

It does not mean the amplifier independently connects to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Internet radio, AirPlay, Chromecast, or Bluetooth sources.

A separate compatible source device or audio-casting interface is needed when those services are part of the system.

Three Powered-Subwoofer Outputs

The rear panel provides three low-level RCA Sub Outs—one for each possible zone.

Each output can connect to a powered subwoofer or an external passive-subwoofer amplifier.

The Sub Out number corresponds to the zone number. A subwoofer assigned to Zone 2, for example, connects to Sub Out 2.

Configurable Subwoofer Crossover

The OvrC interface provides crossover controls for each configured subwoofer zone.

Available settings include:

  • Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley filter type.
  • Selectable -12, -24, or -48 dB-per-octave slope.
  • Adjustable crossover frequency.
  • Subwoofer-level offset relative to the zone volume.

When the powered subwoofer or external subwoofer amplifier also provides a crossover control, set that control as high as practical while using the crossover in the EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50.

Powered or Passive Subwoofer Configurations

During zone configuration, the subwoofer can be identified as powered, passive, or absent.

Speaker presets do not replace correct impedance, power, placement, and crossover planning.

Room EQ and Tone Controls

The current Episode online configuration guide documents six bands of fully parametric Room EQ in addition to the selected speaker-preset curve.

Zone-level tone controls include a bass shelf centered at 125Hz and a treble shelf beginning at 2kHz.

EQ should be used for measured or carefully evaluated corrections rather than large arbitrary boosts that increase amplifier and speaker demand.

Speaker Distance and Time Alignment

Individual speaker-distance settings help align the arrival time of sound at the listening position.

This is particularly useful for 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and subwoofer-assisted multichannel configurations where the speakers are not all the same distance from the listener.

Maximum-Volume Protection

Each zone can have a maximum volume setting.

This can help prevent users from accidentally raising a zone beyond the intended listening level or the practical limits of its speakers and available amplifier power.

The amplifier also provides individual channel-pair protection. A fault affecting one output pair does not necessarily stop every other configured zone.

Front-Panel Status Indicators

The front-panel status LED glows blue when the amplifier is operating.

Each channel also has an indicator:

  • Blue: The channel is assigned to a configured zone.
  • Off: The channel is not configured for use.
  • Red: The channel is in an over-temperature or over-current fault condition.

The LEDs can be disabled through OvrC when the amplifier is mounted in a visible location.

Low-Impedance Speaker Outputs

The EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50 powers compatible low-impedance passive speakers through removable speaker-wire connectors.

Episode recommends 14- to 18-gauge stranded two-conductor speaker wire.

Observe correct positive and negative polarity at the amplifier and every speaker.

No Channel Bridging

Required MoIP Controller

A B-900-MOIP-4K-CTRL controller is required for the amplifier to function within the MoIP system.

If the amplifier is connected but does not appear in the device list, confirm that a working controller is present on the same system before resetting or replacing equipment.

Managed Network Requirements

This product should not be connected to an unconfigured consumer network and expected to operate like an ordinary streaming amplifier.

A MoIP network requires a properly configured Layer 2 or Layer 3 managed switch with features such as:

  • IGMP snooping.
  • IGMP querier configuration.
  • Jumbo frames of at least 8,000 bytes.
  • Correct router-learning settings.
  • Sufficient Ethernet ports and PoE capacity.

Keep MoIP Devices on the Correct Switch

It does not mean the amplifier independently connects to Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Internet radio, AirPlay, Chromecast, or Bluetooth sources.

A separate compatible source device or audio-casting interface is needed when those services are part of the system.

Three Powered-Subwoofer Outputs

The rear panel provides three low-level RCA Sub Outs—one for each possible zone.

Each output can connect to a powered subwoofer or an external passive-subwoofer amplifier.

The Sub Out number corresponds to the zone number. A subwoofer assigned to Zone 2, for example, connects to Sub Out 2.

Configurable Subwoofer Crossover

The OvrC interface provides crossover controls for each configured subwoofer zone.

Available settings include:

  • Butterworth or Linkwitz-Riley filter type.
  • Selectable -12, -24, or -48 dB-per-octave slope.
  • Adjustable crossover frequency.
  • Subwoofer-level offset relative to the zone volume.

When the powered subwoofer or external subwoofer amplifier also provides a crossover control, set that control as high as practical while using the crossover in the EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50.

Powered or Passive Subwoofer Configurations

During zone configuration, the subwoofer can be identified as powered, passive, or absent.

  • Powered subwoofer: Uses the corresponding RCA Sub Out.
  • Passive subwoofer: Uses one of the amplifier’s powered speaker channels.
  • No subwoofer: Leaves the available channels for main speakers or another zone.

A passive subwoofer must be compatible with the amplifier’s available power and impedance requirements.

DSP Configuration Through OvrC

OvrC is used to create zones, route sources, configure playback formats, manage the amplifier, and adjust DSP settings.

Available controls include:

  • Zone source selection.
  • Zone volume and mute.
  • Maximum-volume limits.
  • Test-tone generation.
  • Speaker presets.
  • Speaker-distance and time-alignment settings.
  • Subwoofer crossover and level.
  • Bass and treble tone controls.
  • Parametric room EQ.

Speaker Presets

OvrC includes presets for compatible Episode and Triad speakers.

Selecting a listed speaker applies a manufacturer-developed EQ curve for that model.

For speakers that are not included, the interface provides Generic Small and Generic Large starting presets.

Speaker presets do not replace correct impedance, power, placement, and crossover planning.

Room EQ and Tone Controls

The current Episode online configuration guide documents six bands of fully parametric Room EQ in addition to the selected speaker-preset curve.

Zone-level tone controls include a bass shelf centered at 125Hz and a treble shelf beginning at 2kHz.

EQ should be used for measured or carefully evaluated corrections rather than large arbitrary boosts that increase amplifier and speaker demand.

Speaker Distance and Time Alignment

Individual speaker-distance settings help align the arrival time of sound at the listening position.

This is particularly useful for 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and subwoofer-assisted multichannel configurations where the speakers are not all the same distance from the listener.

Maximum-Volume Protection

Each zone can have a maximum volume setting.

This can help prevent users from accidentally raising a zone beyond the intended listening level or the practical limits of its speakers and available amplifier power.

The amplifier also provides individual channel-pair protection. A fault affecting one output pair does not necessarily stop every other configured zone.

Front-Panel Status Indicators

The front-panel status LED glows blue when the amplifier is operating.

Each channel also has an indicator:

  • Blue: The channel is assigned to a configured zone.
  • Off: The channel is not configured for use.
  • Red: The channel is in an over-temperature or over-current fault condition.

The LEDs can be disabled through OvrC when the amplifier is mounted in a visible location.

Low-Impedance Speaker Outputs

The EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50 powers compatible low-impedance passive speakers through removable speaker-wire connectors.

Episode recommends 14- to 18-gauge stranded two-conductor speaker wire.

Observe correct positive and negative polarity at the amplifier and every speaker.

The published maximum output rating is specified into 4 ohms. Do not connect 70V or 100V speakers directly to these outputs.

No Channel Bridging

The six-channel model does not support bridged output operation.

Do not combine two channels in an attempt to create a higher-powered output. Episode documents bridging only for the EA-MOIP-AMP-12D-100.

Required MoIP Controller

A B-900-MOIP-4K-CTRL controller is required for the amplifier to function within the MoIP system.

If the amplifier is connected but does not appear in the device list, confirm that a working controller is present on the same system before resetting or replacing equipment.

Managed Network Requirements

This product should not be connected to an unconfigured consumer network and expected to operate like an ordinary streaming amplifier.

A MoIP network requires a properly configured Layer 2 or Layer 3 managed switch with features such as:

  • IGMP snooping.
  • IGMP querier configuration.
  • Jumbo frames of at least 8,000 bytes.
  • Correct router-learning settings.
  • Sufficient Ethernet ports and PoE capacity.

Episode recommends configuring the network before connecting MoIP equipment to avoid flooding and instability.

Keep MoIP Devices on the Correct Switch

The amplifier should connect to the same properly configured MoIP switching environment as the controller and other MoIP devices.

The network design should account for the controller, all transmitters, receivers, amplifiers, uplinks, available bandwidth, and future expansion.

Control4 and Automation Integration

The amplifier integrates with Control4 and other supported control systems through available drivers.

Depending on the configured system, the interface can provide source selection, volume feedback, bass, midrange and treble controls, and playback-format information.

Control-system compatibility, driver version, controller software, and firmware should be confirmed during system design.

Control4 Announcement Limitation

Snap One currently notes that Control4 Audio Announcements over MoIP are not supported by this amplifier.

Do not select this model based on an expectation that it will reproduce Control4 announcement audio over the MoIP path unless Snap One publishes a later compatibility update.

Compact Mounting Options

The EA-MOIP-AMP-6D-50 is a compact 1U-high, VersaBox-compatible amplifier.

Two mounting ears and four removable feet are included, allowing placement in a suitable rack, structured-wiring enclosure, media cabinet, or supported wall-mount arrangement.

Do not stack other equipment on top of the amplifier. Maintain appropriate ventilation and do not use its chassis or mounting ears to support other components.
